About Our Courses

Comprehensive School-Based Training

Our SCITT courses are full-time, one-year programmes, designed to immerse you in practical, school-based training. The course fee for UK citizens is £9,535.

Throughout the year, you will spend most of your time in one main school, gaining hands-on experience and developing your teaching skills. You’ll also complete a contrasting second placement, ensuring you experience different school environments and teaching approaches. With 30 days of teaching experience at an 80% contact ratio, by the end of the summer term, you’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate and meet all Teacher Standards by the end of the programme.

Our training covers different age ranges to suit your career aspirations:

· Secondary (11-16): Teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with additional enrichment experiences in pre- and post-16 settings.

· Primary (5-11): Teach across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with additional enrichment experiences in early years and secondary transition.

· Early Years (3-7): Gain experience in Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, with additional enrichment in pre-school and Key Stage 2 settings.

This hands-on approach ensures you are well-prepared to teach confidently across different stages of education.

Trainees participate in 20 days of Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP), designed to bridge evidence-based theory with practical classroom application. This encourages critical analysis, application of learning, and focused feedback to continually refine teaching skills. ITAP also includes visits to various educational settings, including SEND provisions and Pupil Referral Units.

Our high-quality, school-based mentoring provides expert support through observation, reflection, and constructive feedback from experienced colleagues. With tailored training and insightful discussions, you’ll experience rapid growth, sharpening your skills as you progress through each placement.

Trainees train four days a week in schools alongside expert mentors, with one day of SCITT-based training in modern, comfortable, well equipped training centres which are easily accessible by car or public transport.

Many trainees secure employment within their placement or trust schools, reflecting the strength of our partnerships. Horizon SCITT is dedicated to empowering you to become a skilled, impactful educator.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)

If your degree is not directly related to your chosen subject but you have a strong interest, you may be required to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course before training begins.
